Background

Innovation: Africa (iA) is an Israeli non-profit organization composed of a team of dedicated problem solvers working together to bring solar and water technologies to rural communities in Africa. With a mission to provide sustainable solutions, iA utilizes solar energy to pump clean water and bring light to schools and medical clinics for storing vaccines and medicines. Over the years, iA has successfully completed more than 1000 solar, water, and agricultural projects, positively impacting the lives of over 5 million people in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, Cameroon, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Job Purpose

Innovation: Africa is seeking a Director of Resource Development to lead the organization's fundraising efforts and strategic partnerships to support its growth and expansion. The Director of Resource Development will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies to support the organization's mission and achieve its goals, with a focus on international philanthropic foundations and institutional funders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve the organization's annual revenue goals.
  • Manage, cultivate, and grow a portfolio of major donors and prospects, with a focus on global funders of international development initiatives.
  • Manage the development team, including their responsibilities for fundraising campaigns, grant writing, reports, donor relations, and donor trips.
  • Work with strategic partners to grow the organization’s reach and cultivate joint fundraising efforts.
  • Work with the CEO and Board of Directors to identify and cultivate new fundraising opportunities.
  • Develop and monitor the department budget.
  • Work closely with marketing, communications, and finance teams to ensure message alignment and meeting targets.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory: Experience in the international development world, including securing funds from large US foundations (e.g., Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation) and institutional investors (e.g., USAID, World Bank).
  • At least 5 years of in-house managerial experience in nonprofit fundraising, preferably in large organizations, with a proven track record of success in major gifts fundraising.
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Passion for the mission of Innovation: Africa and the desire to make a meaningful impact on the world.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Native English speaker with excellent writing and editing skills in English, with experience creating fundraising materials such as proposals, donor reports, and appeal letters.
  • Familiarity with fundraising databases and software, including CRM systems.

Requirements/Other

This job requires frequent travel to the U.S. to meet donors and accompany donor trips across Africa. Proficiency in English is a requirement.
